|1,200+ American Craft Beer Week® Events: How are You Participating?
|Let's see a show of hands for all those who are passionate about craft beer and truly enjoy sharing the good word.
Lots of enthusiasm is to be expected among this crowd. Keep your hands raised if there are beer events that you look forward to all year—a chance to catch up with peers, celebrate progress made and maybe an opportunity to share your gusto with the unenlightened among us? (Without fail, those bagpipes signaling the start of Great American Beer Festival® stir emotion throughout the festival hall.)
Now for an important question: is American Craft Beer Week (ACBW), May 12-18, 2014 among those events?
It seems every city now has a beer week—from Kalamazoo to Houston, San Diego to Syracuse—which is exciting, but also taxing. (There are more craft beer weeks across the U.S. than there are weeks in the year.) All that planning… and drinking… is there really room for another one?
But American Craft Beer Week is special—nine years strong with more than 1,200 events on the official calendar in 2013, this is craft beer's Earth Day and deserves a place of reverence on our calendars. ACBW continually garners celebrations in all 50 states and is our chance as brewers and distributors to collectively celebrate our culture and community with those already familiar with what we do—as well as bring new folks into our fold. With hundreds of media mentions and a significant uptick in “craft beer” Google searches during the week, it's clear these goals are being achieved. Ultimately, it's also a great opportunity to establish credibility with our retailers and add value to their business as we increase profitability and create excitement.
We've covered the “why,” but what about the “how”? There are lots of ways your organization can become involved: challenge your sales reps to pair up with a craft supplier and build off-premise displays together, showcase your portfolio with a collaborative on-premise tasting, or better yet, plan a “meet the brewer” beer dinner to effectively connect with fans on a deeper level. Food and beer pairings are increasingly popular and a great way to stay relevant in a competitive market.
Please don't forget to let us know what you're up to so we can help promote your events. It's a Big Week for Small Breweries!
