Important End of Year Housing Information

It has been a great year on campus, but now we are winding down! This is a friendly reminder that all on-campus housing facilities officially close to non-graduating students on Thursday, May 8 at noon. Your student will need to be checked out of their room 24 hours after their last final exam or by May 8 at noon, whichever is first. Housing closes for graduating students on (Read more . . .)

Let's all go to Baccalaureate!

One dictionary definition for this event is: a preaching worship service of thanksgiving on the occasion of graduation exercises. Public high schools that are not able to hold a worship service may offer a similar event that includes music and readings. At private schools, colleges and universities, the Baccalaureate program is one that feels a lot like a worship experience in more traditional religious traditions.

At Carroll, graduation weekend includes the Baccalaureate worship service at (Read more . . .)

Carroll now member of CCIW athletic conference

Carroll University has recently accepted an invitation to return to the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW). We will be the ninth member of this long-standing, highly competitive, and most prestigious NCAA Division III conference. Our official start date will commence with the fall sports season in 2016. Our women's lacrosse team will join as an associate member beginning in the 2015-16 season.

Carroll will return to the CCIW after more than a two decade absence. Our athletics program was a member of the CCIW from 1955 to 1992 and achieved many notable accomplishments during that time.

This announcement marks the first change in full membership for the CCIW since Carroll left the conference. We are extremely proud to be realigning with institutions that are recognized for academic excellence. It will be especially exciting for our student-athletes who will be able to test their skills against some of the finest Division III competition in the country.

Member institutions of the CCIW include:

Augustana College, Rock Island, IL
Carthage College, Kenosha, WI
Elmhurst College, Elmhurst, IL
Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington, IL
Millikin University, Decatur, IL
North Central College, Naperville, IL
North Park University, Chicago, IL
Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL

More information on the CCIW can be found at:

Please join President Hastad in extending best wishes to Joe Baker, our Director of Athletics, his coaching staff, and all our student-athletes as they begin the transition to the CCIW. The bar has been raised. Indeed, it is a wonderful time to be a Pioneer!

Discussing finances with your student

The end of the academic year is a good time to sit down with your student and reflect on what went well, and what improvements can be made for the following year. One topic that is critical and often avoided is finances.

A recent Associated Press-Viacom poll found that money problems, not grades, are the reason cited by most college students who consider dropping out. The economic downturn of the past few years has made the plight of the college student even more challenging. Many students who relied on their parents for financial support found that one or both parents had lost their jobs, and therefore (Read more . . .)

April Programming wrap-up
Cultural programming for spring 2014 wrapped up with outstanding performances and educational presentations. Raise Your Voice, a stage performance where a group of student performers courageously shared their stories and gave voice to underrepresented groups at Carroll was very well received. Cultural Awareness Week, a week-long offering of culturally-focused events and activities, included a screening and discussion of the film CRASH, a keynote lecture by Dr. Nicolas Kanellos from the University of Houston and more.

Multicultural Student Organizations
Congratulations on a success-filled 2013-2014 academic year are extended to the members and associates of the multicultural student organizations. As they explored and shared their cultural traditions, they promoted cross-cultural interaction, cooperation and understanding across the campus.
