The Philadelphia newspaper guild will not participate in the auction for Interstate General Media. Local businessman Raymond Perelman and other investors said they wouldn't match the $77 million opening bid pledged by current owners.

D. Lee Carlson named president of PA Media Group

D. Lee Carlson has been named president of PA Media Group, effective immediately. She has been serving as interim president, while also managing Advance Central Services Pennsylvania. Carlson has more than 40 years experience in the media industry, including time at the San Jose Mercury News, Journal Register Co., and the San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner. Paul Thomas, Advance Central Services Syracuse vice president and general manager, will take on the additional responsibility of VP and GM of Advance Central Services Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia art critic dies

Edward J. Sozanski, art critic for The Philadelphia Inquirer, died Monday, April 14, at 77. Sozanski spent more than 30 years documenting Philadelphia’s cultural transformation. He worked in journalism all over the country before coming to The Inquirer in 1982.
